A former manager of El Salvador’s state food agency and five other officials, were charged with embezzling $30 million. Judge Armando Mata Elias told reporters that Jose Humberto Salmeron, former manager of the Supply Regulation Institute, known by the initials IRA, and five former agency employees had been detained and were to appear before a local court on charges of embezzling state funds. It was the second case of corruption involving former government officials in a week. Alfredo Navas, another former IRA manager who was also a leader of the ruling Christian Democrat Party and former son-in-law of President Jose Napoleon Duarte, was also accused of embezzlement.
