John McEnroe, in the midst of another comeback attempt at age 29, will play Guillermo Perez-Roldan, 18, today at Buenos Aires in the opening singles match of the Davis Cup American Zone final between the United States and Argentina.
The afternoon match pits sixth-ranked Andre Agassi, 18, against Argentina’s Martin Jaite, 23, ranked 22nd.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon champion Stefan Edberg, who has struggled on clay throughout his career, was named to team with Mats Wilander in defending champion Sweden’s Davis Cup semifinal battle against France, which gets under way Saturday.
