Leaders of opposing Cambodian factions began gathering in Indonesia for informal talks aimed at ending the country’s long guerrilla war. The talks are to begin Monday with a session between the Hanoi-backed Cambodian government and a tripartite Cambodian resistance coalition backed by China and the United States. Vietnam, Laos and six non-Communist Southeast Asian nations will join the talks later this week. Cambodian Prince Norodom Sihanouk, who is regarded as a key to any political settlement, arrived in Jakarta, although he has said he will not join the talks and designated his son to represent his faction.
