CalMat Co., the cement company which last week averted a hostile takeover attempt with an agreement to take on a Japanese firm as a 19% owner, said its second-quarter profit dropped 18% because April rains hampered operations. The Los Angeles firm said it earned $11.5 million, down from $14 million. Revenue was $161.7 million, down from $162.9 million a year earlier.
