44 Miners Killed

BEIJING — A gas explosion killed 44 coal miners in China’s northwest Gansu Province, the official New China News Agency said Saturday. Rescue work is continuing following Friday’s explosion in the Xipo mine in Liandan county, and four miners had been saved, the agency said.
