The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power set out Wednesday to distribute $100,000 in vouchers to low-income families who cannot pay their water and electric bills.
Vouchers were distributed by the United Way at five locations throughout the city under “Project ANGEL,” the Assist Neighbors by Giving Energy for Living program.
Customers with delinquent DWP bills who were able to prove low income or recent unemployment were eligible for up to $150 in vouchers to pay their late bills, DWP spokesman Ed Freudenburg said.
The $100,000 in vouchers, paid for through contributions by other DWP customers in their bills and by DWP employees, were distributed on a first-come basis.
