PLO to Pay Fired Jordanians

NICOSIA, Cyprus — Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat said today his group would pay the salaries of laid-off and retired Jordanian employees in the Israeli occupied-West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Jordan early this month announced it was letting go the 21,200 employees in phases, gradually eliminating payment of about $45 million in salaries a year. Although Jordan laid off or retired the employees, Arafat said they would remain in their current positions.
