Hahn Park: SB 643 by Sen. Diane Watson (D-Los Angeles) renames the Baldwin Hills State Recreation Area the Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area in honor of the veteran Los Angeles County supervisor.
Weapons: SB 1799 by Sen. Ruben S. Ayala (D-Chino) imposes a criminal penalty of up to one year in prison for bringing a concealed weapon to a meeting required to be open to the public.

Tanning Salons: Passed and sent to the governor on a 64-2 vote a bill (AB 2139) by Assemblyman William Filante (R-Greenbrae) calling for state regulation of tanning salons, including warning patrons of possible health hazards from overexposure.
Pornography: Passed and sent to the governor on a 62-0 vote a bill (AB 2093) by Assemblyman Gil Ferguson (R-Newport Beach) to prohibit the display of explicit pornographic materials in coin-operated vending machines in areas frequented by children.

Credit Cards: Passed and sent to the governor on a 36-0 vote a bill (SB 1948) by Senate President Pro Tem David A. Roberti (D-Los Angeles) to reduce credit card fraud by requiring forms to be carbonless or not contain a separate piece of paper that readily identifies the cardholder by name or number.
Indoor Pollution: Passed and sent to the governor on a 23-3 vote a bill (AB 3343) by Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D-El Monte) calling for a state study to determine how much indoor air pollution Californians are breathing.
Graffiti: Passed and returned to the Assembly for concurrence in amendments on a 33-0 vote a bill (AB 2992) by Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sepulveda) to prohibit minors from purchasing aerosol containers of spray paint unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, instructor or employer.
Pap Smears: Passed and returned to the Assembly for concurrence in amendments on a 33-0 vote a bill (AB 3663) by Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D-El Monte) to broaden testing for laboratory technicians who examine Pap smears to enable them to detect cervical cancer in women.
Animal Abuse: Passed and returned to the Assembly for concurrence in amendments on a 35-0 vote a bill (AB 4023) by Assemblyman William Filante (R-Greenbrae) to increase the potential penalty for animal abuse to a $20,000 fine and up to one year in prison or both.
