Ayrton Senna of Brazil tied a record by earning his ninth Formula One pole position in 11 races this season during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.
Sweden’s Ronnie Petersen (1973), Austria’s Niki Lauda (1974 and 1975) and Brazil’s Nelson Piquet (1984) also won nine poles in a season.
