Police found charred skeletal remains Sunday in a backcountry area of north San Diego that was scorched by a brush fire about six weeks ago.
The remains were discovered about noon along California 78 east of the San Pasqual Academy, police said.
A coroner’s spokesman said the department did not dispatch an investigator to the scene since police were unable to determine whether the remains were of a human or an animal. The spokesman said police would transport the remains to the coroner’s office for possible identification.
