Welch Wins Two Titles in Wheelchair Tennis

Steve Welch of Dallas won two titles Sunday in the third annual Junior National Wheelchair Tennis tournament at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Welch defeated Ryan Martin of Washington, D.C., 6-3, 6-3, to win the singles championship. Welch then teamed up with Martin to defeat Jason Vanbeek and Rick Carter of Chino, 9-7, to win the doubles title.
Phong Le of Santa Ana defeated Robert Licea of Eagle Rock, Calif., 9-7, in the singles consolation final.
In girls’ play, Gina Jalbert of Arcadia defeated Amy McKnight of East Lansing, Mich., 8-3, for the singles championship. The two then teamed up to win the doubles title.
