West Germany reported that its economy grew by a robust 3.9% in the first half of 1988, compared to the same period in 1987, confounding critics of government economic policy. The Economics Ministry said gross national product, the widest measure of economic output, held steady in the second quarter of this year, compared to the first three months. Year-to-year growth in the second quarter was 3.4%.
