The state Department of Transportation has announced that ramp meters will be turned on in mid-September along the eastbound and westbound Pomona Freeway between Paramount Boulevard and Brea Canyon Road in the cities of Rosemead, South El Monte and Industry.
The meters will operate Mondays through Fridays. Several ramps will have a bus and car-pool lane for vehicles carrying two or more people.
The westbound ramps will generally operate from 6 to 9 a.m. They include: Brea Canyon Road, Fairway Drive, Fullerton Road, Hacienda Boulevard, Crossroads Parkway, Peck Road and Rosemead, San Gabriel and Paramount boulevards.
The eastbound ramps will generally operate from 3 to 6 p.m. and include: Hacienda Boulevard, Fullerton Road, Fairway Drive and Brea Canyon Road.
Jerry B. Baxter, Caltrans district director, said: “As traffic conditions dictate, some ramp meters may be turned on earlier or turned off later. The operation of the meters and the effect on city streets and county roads will be closely monitored, so that necessary adjustments in the metering rates and periods can be made.”
Ramp metering is designed to reduce freeway congestion.
