West Hollywood : High-Tech Ticket Checkers
- Share via
West Hollywood has gone high-tech in its effort to nab frequent traffic offenders.
The City Council decided Tuesday to spend $27,095 to purchase seven auto-ticket writers called Autocite. The hand-held computers will be used by the Sheriff’s Department to check license plate numbers to catch drivers who don’t pay their parking tickets.
The equipment can maintain information on 10,000 vehicles that have five or more unpaid, overdue citations. By punching a license number into the Autocite, an officer can tell whether the vehicle owner has outstanding tickets and can impound the vehicle until fines are paid.
The computer will also make it easier for the Sheriff’s Department to handle public complaints about parking citations.
