William Y. Tauscher, ComputerLand’s chairman and one of its major stockholders, has been named president and chief executive at the Oakland-based company. Tauscher will replace Kenneth R. Waters, who will take a new position and concentrate on licensing, legal and long-term strategic matters. Waters, who has been with ComputerLand for 10 years, asked for the change and will retain his position on the board. Tauscher is a partner in the New York investment house of E. M. Warburg, Pincus & Co., which holds a stake in ComputerLand.
