House of Fabrics said its net income for the second quarter that ended July 31 rose 12% to $454,000, or 7 cents a share, compared to $404,000, or 6 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue for the period was up 3% to $72 million from $69.7 million in the same period a year ago.
The Sherman Oaks-based chain of retail fabric and sewing stores attributed the increases to the success of its super stores--retail outlets up to six times the size of a typical mall shop.
For the six months that ended July 31, House of Fabrics earned $2.5 million, or 37 cents a share, compared to $2.2 million, or 33 cents a share, the year before. The company registered $147 million in sales in the period compared to $143 million a year earlier.
