An inmate who escaped more than two weeks ago from the Parker Center Jail in downtown Los Angeles has been recaptured, police said Wednesday.
Officers investigating reports of heroin sales Tuesday afternoon at Jefferson Boulevard and Western Avenue arrested Bennett Anderson, 45, Sgt. Roy Avalos said.
Anderson, who was being held at the time on several misdemeanor warrants, escaped Sept. 4 by removing an air conditioning vent and climbing through the narrow ducting and up into the ceiling, Detective Jim Farris said. He made his way to the attic of the jail wing, dropped into a Teletype room and walked out the back door, Farris said.
