Living With Helicopter Noise
This is in response to all the complaints about helicopter noises from Tustin and El Toro Marine bases. I don’t know what people are complaining about.
First of all, the Marines have been here since World War II. Orange County was just a patch of dirt then. And most of the population of Irvine moved here after 1980.
Secondly, El Toro is the largest Marine Corps Air Station on the West Coast. Are the Marines supposed to move an entire base just to please some spoiled yuppies who don’t know how good they have it?
I have lived in Irvine for 11 years, and I have no complaints about the noise. Sure, the Marines fly directly over my house at least twice a day, every day. But the helicopters remind me of how lucky I am to live in this country.
The next time someone wants to complain about the noise, I would like to ask him one question: Would you rather hear Soviet helicopters?
