Israel’s 1st Satellite to Survive Longer in Orbit

JERUSALEM — Israel’s first satellite, launched last month, will remain in orbit for two to three weeks longer than planned, Israel Space Agency head Yuval Neeman said Sunday.
He said an unexpected accumulation of solar energy will enable the satellite to circle the Earth for six to seven weeks before burning out.
Israel has denied that the craft is a spy satellite, but military analysts believe it is the country’s first step toward launching a reconnaissance satellite.
