Local News in Brief : Minor Earthquake Tickles the Valley

An all but imperceptible earthquake jiggled the San Fernando Valley early Tuesday and was likely an aftershock to a bigger temblor Saturday, officials said.
The 4:03 a.m. quake, centered near Sunland, measured 2.8 on the Richter scale, said Robert Finn, spokesman for Caltech in Pasadena.
Earthquakes below magnitude 3 produce little damage and are rarely felt. Police officers at the Foothill station, the closest to the quake, said they received no calls about it.
Saturday’s quake was centered 5 miles northwest of Sunland and measured 3.5 on the Richter scale.
Finn said more than 11,000 earthquakes occur annually in Southern California--about 30 quakes a day. Most are too small to be felt, he said.
