Local News in Brief : Gardena Wants to Annex County Land
- Share via
Gardena has applied to the county Local Agency Formation Commission to annex 198 acres of unincorporated county land on Gardena’s western border.
Residents of the Rosecrans Corridor have complained to the Gardena City Council about confusion among some city and county agencies about who has jurisdiction in the unincorporated area for police and fire emergencies and street-sweeping.
Gardena residents, in turn, have complained that the unincorporated area--which runs along Rosecrans Avenue near Crenshaw Boulevard--is poorly policed and overrun with motels that attract crime and traffic to the city.
City officials said annexation would improve services for the approximately 1,700 residents of the corridor and give them better access to local government.
