PREP FOOTBALL : Pacific Coast League : Schweer Leads Woodbridge to 14-7 Victory

Fred Schweer threw 2 touchdown passes to lead Woodbridge High School to a 14-7 victory over Costa Mesa in a Pacific Coast League opener Friday night at Orange Coast College.
Schweer completed 15 of 27 passes for 175 yards as the Warriors improved their overall record to 6-0, earning their 10th consecutive victory over 2 seasons.
Junior Scott Seymour rushed for 125 yards on 21 carries for Woodbridge.
Woodbridge took the early lead when Schweer connected with Alex Zaldivar on an 8-yard touchdown pass with 2:10 left in the first quarter.
But Costa Mesa (2-3-1 overall) tied the score, 7-7, on a 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Rich Schones with 3:49 left in the first half.
The Mustangs kept the drive going when punter Jim Hastie faked a punt on fourth down and connected with Andy Grant for a 25-yard pass play that moved the ball to the Warrior 23.
But Woodbridge moved ahead, 14-7, on the next drive when Schweer hit Ryan Nash on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 1:15 left in the first half.
Schones completed 3 of 16 passes for 9 yards, and one of them went to himself when he hauled in a deflected ball and ran 6 yards.
Schones led his team in rushing with 44 yards in 7 carries.
