Boxing promoter Bob Arum signed promotional contracts with groups representing two Olympic boxing coaches and three gold medalists for a series of televised fights on ESPN.
Ken Adams, the Olympic boxing coach, will train a group of fighters in Las Vegas under the sponsorship of several businessmen, including Jerry Tarkanian, the Nevada Las Vegas basketball coach. Hank Johnson, an Olympic assistant boxing coach, will train another group of fighters in Atlantic City, N.J.
Among the fighters who will train in Atlantic City are heavyweight gold medalist Ray Mercer; heavyweight Robert Salters, a runner-up in the U.S. Olympic trials, and light-heavyweight Alfred Cole, also a runner-up in the trials.
The fighters who will train in Las Vegas include 119-pound gold medalist Kennedy McKinney and welterweight gold medalist Robert Wangila of Kenya.
