Meeting the Running Mates’ Mates

Thank you for your very enlightening article on Marilyn Quayle, wife of Republican vice presidential candidate Dan Quayle (by Patt Morrison, Oct. 5). It is quite evident that of the two, she is far more capable. The fact that she is allowed by the Republican National Committee to campaign solo and on her own schedule while her husband is closely managed by political image makers and damage-control specialists is a telling factor.
This nation should not again be placed in a situation where a weak man of limited capability who is elected to high office is manipulated by a strong, ambitious wife whose activities are not subject to the checks and balances of elected office.
