‘Atom Smasher’ in China

BEIJING — China on Wednesday inaugurated one of the world’s most advanced “atom smashers,” an instrument that physicists use to study the basic structure of matter, the official New China News Agency said. The $65-million nuclear accelerator is located in a tunnel at the Chinese Academy of Science Institute of High Energy.
