Head of Indonesia’s Ruling Party Quits

JAKARTA, Indonesia — The general chairman of the ruling Golkar party, Lt. Gen. Sudharmono, announced that he will not seek a second five-year term.
Sudharmono made the announcement Thursday night at the opening session of the Golkar party convention. He said he was quitting the post so that he could concentrate more on his duties as the nation’s vice president.
