A Missouri man was killed and his female companion was seriously injured when their car plunged over the side of Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, authorities said Sunday.
The two were traveling east on Mulholland near Cold Canyon Road late Saturday afternoon at speeds estimated at about 70 m.p.h. when the man lost control of the 1988 Toyota Celica he was driving. The car drove off the two-lane road and tumbled down an embankment, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monty Keifer.
Michael Forde, 31, of St. Louis died at the scene. Robin Sandboth, 25, also of St. Louis was taken to Westlake Community Hospital, where she was reported in critical condition with “major back injuries,” according to a nursing supervisor.
