Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor temporarily shielded Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. from having to pay a $4-million damage award to a Minnesota service station attendant injured by an exploding tire. O’Connor granted an emergency request by Goodyear to extend a lower court order permitting the company to withhold the money pending action by the full Supreme Court on a formal Goodyear appeal.
