Police Seeking Suspects in Attacks on Orange Women

Times Staff Writer

Police continued their search Monday for four of five men who they believe were involved in the rape and robbery of a 61-year-old Orange woman last week.

One suspect, a transient identified as Emiliano Flores Conseco, 23, was arrested shortly after the first attack after another woman reported that he had tried to assault her as she walked down the street, according to Sgt. Timm Browne of the Orange Police Department.

Conseco, described by authorities as an undocumented alien, was being held Monday in Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of rape, robbery, burglary, attempted auto theft and sexual assault, Browne said.

The woman, who was not identified by police, told officers that she was awakened about 4:30 a.m. Thursday by five men who where standing over her bed, one of them holding a pair of hedge trimmers at her neck. The men, who spoke little English, demanded money and the keys to the cars that were parked in the driveway of her home in the 400 block of Fern Street, the woman said.

“She had three cars parked in the driveway, but they all were inoperative. She tried to explain that, but they didn’t understand,” Browne said.

Browne said the woman told police that four of the men raped her while the other acted as a lookout. When the men left, after tying her up, she said, they took a television set, a necklace and watch.

The woman, who was alone in the home, managed to untie herself and telephone relatives for help. She was treated at a hospital and released. The woman said she was unable to identify the men because it was dark and two of them wore masks, according to Browne.

However, a few hours later, two men matching the description of those involved in the first assault attempted to attack a 23-year-old woman while she was walking to a bus stop in the 3000 block of East Maple Street, Browne said.

About two hours later, two police officers said they saw Conseco in the same area. Browne said Conseco, who had been drinking, resembled the suspect described by the second victim, and was found wearing a pair of shoes believed taken from the first victim’s home.
