Kahane Wants Citizenship Back

JERUSALEM — Brooklyn-born Rabbi Meir Kahane, the anti-Arab militant who renounced his U.S. citizenship to run for Israel’s Knesset (Parliament), said today he wants to be an American citizen again.
Kahane said he planned to fly to the United States on Wednesday for a fund-raising tour, but U.S. officials said his passport was no longer valid and he would not be able to use it to gain entry. A U.S. Embassy spokesman in Tel Aviv said Kahane formally renounced his citizenship Sept. 16, and on Oct. 7 the State Department approved the certificate of loss of nationality.
