LINCOLN, England — An elderly tortoise is retiring to a British old-age home with an 86-year-old woman who found him in her garden in 1910.
Staff at the Hartsholme Home for the Elderly said Joey the turtle could move in with Beatie Vickers after she insisted they would never part.
“The two are constant companions,” said matron Pat Hartin. “We decided to build him a pen in the garden.”
Many British old-age homes ban pets for sanitary reasons.
