Sigma Kappa national sorority on Sunday will donate $5,000 to Cal State Fullerton’s new Ruby Gerontology Center. The money, designated for research, is one of five grants made by the sorority to U.S. universities.
The presentation of the research grant will come at a 10 a.m. ceremony during which the national sorority will dedicate the renovated Sigma Kappa house at Cal State Fullerton. Tours of the house, at 2100 E. Wilshire Ave., will be given after the ceremony.
Sigma Kappa chose the Gerontology Center for one of its national grants because research into problems of aging is one of the sorority’s philanthropic goals, the sorority said. The Cal State Fullerton Gerontology Center officially opened last month.
J.Y. Young, a professor at the center, said the sorority’s donation will be used for a study to determine “the greatest social need” among the elderly in California.
