HELENA — In Montana, former GOP state Sen. Stan Stephens wrecked a comeback attempt by former Gov. Thomas Judge for a seat being vacated by a Democrat. With 42% of the vote in, Stephens received 82,826 votes or 53% to Judge’s 74,098 or 47%.
When 35% of the precincts had reported, George Bush was the winner of Montana’s four electoral votes by 70,559 votes or 53% to 62,147 votes or 47% for Michael S. Dukakis.
