The Tustin Unified School District has won a 1988 Golden Bell Award from the California School Board Assn. for “an outstanding curriculum” in the theater arts and film program at Tustin High School.
The program is designed “to involve all levels of students in writing, creating, performing and appreciating the arts,” school officials said.
Drama teacher Lisa Roseman said: “Social and group responsibility is taught through student involvement in planning, designing, budgeting and directing class plays and projects. Project participants must be involved in the crew as well as the cast.”
During the past school year, the theater and film students participated in eight theater and video festivals and a play-writing contest.
School board president Barbara Benson will accept the Golden Bell trophy during the California School Board Assn.’s awards banquet Dec. 10 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
