THE PREPS : Volleyball Playoffs : El Modena Upsets Third-Seeded La Habra

El Modena High School upset third-seeded La Habra, 5-15, 15-9, 15-11, 17-15, Friday night in the second round of the Southern Section 3-A girls’ volleyball playoffs at El Modena.
Setter Tracy Endecavageh led the Vanguards with 47 assists and 9 kills. Jennifer Fregosi had 22 kills for El Modena (17-3).
La Habra, the Freeway League champion, finishes 10-6.
In other 3-A second-round matches:
Villa Park 3, Agoura 2--Dana Armstrong had 56 assists and 8 kills to lead host Villa Park to a 13-15, 15-9, 15-12, 11-15, 15-7 victory. Anne Salzman had 27 kills and Evonne Caovette had 19 kills for Villa Park (14-4).
Fullerton 3, Canyon Country 0--Fullerton swept, 15-11, 15-9, 15-13, at home. With Fullerton trailing, 13-11, in the third game, Benna Kennedy served out the match, serving an ace on the final point. Fullerton (16-6) advances to play Villa Park. Canyon Country finishes, 14-2.
In 4-A second-round matches:
Marina 3, Marlborough 1--Marina lost the first game but rallied, 13-15, 15-8, 15-10, 15-3, at home. Suzie Greganic had 14 kills and Rona Weise 12 for Marina (9-7), which had 21 blocks as a team. Marlborough ends the season 14-2.
Edison 3, Loara 0--Edison swept, 15-2, 15-4, 15-2, at home. Heather Jensen, a senior outside hitter, had 21 service points for the Chargers (15-3), who have a 12-match winning streak. Loara finishes 11-7.
Fountain Valley 3, Esperanza 2--The Barons ended the season for Empire League champion Esperanza, 8-15, 17-15, 14-16, 15-0, 15-13, at Fountain Valley.
Esperanza finished 18-2.
Yvette Ybarra had 19 kills for Fountain Valley (14-4).
In a 1-A second-round match:
Miraleste 3, Connelly 0--Miraleste pulled out a victory in the final game to sweep Connelly, 15-7, 15-10, 17-15. Sarah Telford had 17 kills for Connelly (15-2). Miraleste is 17-4.
