The Pentagon confirmed that a Navy helicopter crashed late Thursday in the Persian Gulf, apparently killing the three crew members aboard. In a statement, the Pentagon said the SH-2F helicopter crashed at sea while making an approach to land aboard the frigate Barbey in the north Arabian sea. A search failed to find the crew, the statement said. Presumed dead are Lt. Cmdr. Gerald C. Pelz, 37, of Coronado, Calif., the only married crew member; Lt. (j.g.) Gerald T. Ramsdell, age unknown, of Ridgewood, N.J., and aviation anti-submarine warfare operator 3rd Class William E. Martinie, 24, of Peoria, Ill.
