The Downey City Council and Board of Education have unanimously approved final construction plans for a community swimming pool project that has been a cooperative effort of the two agencies for the past 3 years, school board President Grace E. Horney said.
Plans for the pool will be forwarded to the state architect for approval. Construction is scheduled to begin by April. Horney said it will be about 13 months before the pool is completed.
“The kids will finally have a place to recreate and enjoy themselves during the summer and other seasons,” Horney said. “We’ve waited a long time for this to happen.”
Construction will cost the city about $1.6 million, a report said.
