The City Council on Tuesday approved $11,182 to replace 120 holiday street decorations that were damaged last year.
The city annually displays 400 lighted decorations along Wilshire Boulevard and other city streets in what has become one of the nation’s most elaborate displays of holiday spirit. Officials said bad weather during last year’s pageant created cracks in 120 decorations, which are large, lighted greeting cards.
Karl B. Schurz, president of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce, said the damaged cards probably won’t be replaced until after the official lighting ceremony on Nov. 25, but enough cards will be available to decorate Wilshire Boulevard.
