‘Seeing Through the Smoke’

In response to “Seeing Through the Smoke,” editorial, Nov. 10:
The one and only reason Proposition 99 passed is that tobacco users are a minority.
Can anyone believe that if a like proposition (using the same flawed philosophical premise) increasing the state tax on alcohol products 250% were on the ballot that it would have passed?
Big brotherism raises its head in some strange places, usually disguised as “Mr. Do-Good.” This time the California voters and, not surprisingly, The Times bought the package. The results will be interesting to watch.
