Proxmire Is Retiring, but Fleece to Live On

WASHINGTON — Retiring Sen. William Proxmire (D-Wis.) has been elected to the board of the National Taxpayers Union and will continue sponsoring his Golden Fleece Award in the new role, the group announced Thursday.
“We are delighted to welcome Sen. Proxmire to the NTU board,” said Jim Davidson, chairman of the nonprofit organization. The group, which calls itself a “taxpayer-advocacy organization,” claims 150,000 members.
