Defending champion California is the top-seeded team in the NCAA water polo tournament which starts today at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
“Sure, we have a good chance of winning it,” said Pete Cutino, coach of the 30-3 Golden Bears, “but there’s not too much if anything that separates us from UCLA, USC and Stanford.”
Cal will play Arkansas-Little Rock (14-1) at 3 p.m.
In other games, UCLA (27-4) will play Navy (26-6) at 4:30; USC (22-7) will meet UC Irvine (17-13) at 6:30, and Stanford (21-10) will play Cal State Long Beach (18-9) at 7:30.
The semifinals will be played Saturday night at 6 and 7:30 and the championship match will be held Sunday night at 7:30.
