UCLA Center to Honor Retiring Director

The UCLA Center for the Study of Women is honoring Karen Rowe, its founding director, and launching the center fund for faculty research Tuesday at a dinner in the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel. The center is a formally organized research unit that focuses on gender-related issues in all fields of study. Rowe is stepping down as director to work full time as principal investigator on a two-year project to incorporate the history and perspectives of women of color into the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum.

The project was funded by Ford Foundation with matching funds from UCLA. Tuesday’s dinner is being co-chaired by UC Regent Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Chancellor Charles E. Young and Associate of the Chancellor Sue K. Young and the Friends of the Center. Comedienne Lotus Weinstock will entertain. Tickets to the event cost $125.
