SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS : Division VIII : Woodbridge Defeats Santa Clara, 34-14

Scott Seymour and Mike Yurkovich scored 2 touchdowns each to lead Woodbridge High School to a 34-14 victory over Santa Clara Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Division VIII playoffs at Irvine Stadium.
Seymour rushed for 120 yards in 13 carries and hauled in 3 catches for 38 yards, and Yurkovich rushed for 84 yards in 6 carries to send Woodbridge (11-1) into the semifinals at Agoura, a 7-0 winner over Paso Robles Friday night.
Woodbridge quarterback Fred Schweer completed 13 of 29 passes for 175 yards.
Santa Clara (11-1) took a 7-0 lead when quarterback Tim Gutierrez connected with Roger Miranda on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 3:13 left in the first quarter. But Woodbridge tied the score at 7-7 when Schweer scored on a quarterback keeper from 1-yard out with 7:56 left in the first half.
Trailing 14-7, the Warriors moved ahead, 21-14, on touchdown runs of 14 and 44 yards by Seymour in the third quarter.
Woodbridge increased its lead to 27-14 on a 10-yard run by Yurkovich with 3:40 to play. The Warriors’ conversion kick attempt failed.
Yurkovich then intercepted a pass by Gutierrez and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown, giving Woodbridge a commanding 34-14 lead.
Woodbridge was penalized 11 times for 94 yards. Santa Clara was penalized 12 times for 85 yards and lost the ball twice on fumbles.
