NCAA Water Polo Championship : No. 1 Cal Ousts Arkansas-Little Rock, UCLA Routs Navy in Quarterfinals

Top-seeded California routed No. 8 Arkansas-Little Rock, 17-6, and No. 2 UCLA beat seventh-seeded Navy, 11-3, Friday during the quarterfinals of the 20th NCAA water polo championships at Long Beach.
In other single-elimination matches later in the day, Cal State Long Beach played Stanford and UC Irvine played USC.
Rich Ambridge and Chris Humbert scored 3 goals apiece for California (30-3). Scoring 2 goals each were Ivan Ortiz, Matt Murphy and Kirk Everist.
Raymond VanDenBerge and Simon Gould had 2 goals apiece for Arkansas Little-Rock (14-2).
UCLA (28-4) was led by Hank Peterson and Scott Leonard with 3 scores each. Alexis Rosseau added 2 goals.
Navy (26-7) got single goals from Mike Peterson, Jeff Tomlin and Tom Tomcheck.
