HUDSON, N.Y. — Perched on a fire engine, a laughing Santa Claus led hundreds of youngsters through city streets Saturday in Upstate New York, bellowing, “Ho, ho, ho” and “Say no to drugs.”
The post-Thanksgiving parade and crusade in Hudson, a city of 8,000, was the result of a scheduling compromise between separate citizen groups who wanted to usher in the holiday season and to fight drug abuse.
Police said at least 500 people, mostly children, watched or participated. They carried signs saying “Say No to Drugs” and “Down With Crack.”
