A Holocaust survivor splashed acid in the face of a lawyer for John Demjanjuk, the convicted Nazi war criminal known as “Ivan the Terrible.” The incident occurred at a funeral in a Jewish cemetery for another defense lawyer, police said. Witnesses said that attorney Yoram Sheftel was taken to the eye unit of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital. He was reported in satisfactory condition although complaining of blurred vision and pain in his left eye. Police identified the assailant as Yisrael Yehezkiell, 70, employed as a guard at the Education Ministry. Demjanjuk, 68, a retired auto worker from Ohio, was sentenced to death in April for committing crimes against humanity as a gas chamber operator at the Treblinka death camp in World War II.
