As jobs follow the housing construction boom into the Inland Empire, the geographical employment center in the Los Angeles basin is moving further eastward.
In the near future, that center will be along the borders between Los Angeles and Orange counties on one side and Riverside and San Bernardino counties on the other, says a Laguna Niguel economic consultant.
According to a study by the Eaton Group in Laguna Niguel, 42% of San Bernardino County residents who changed jobs in the last year decreased their travel time to work, indicating these residents took jobs closer to their homes. The figure for Riverside County was 57%.
Although job growth in San Bernardino County has stayed steady recently, Riverside County jobs are showing strong increases, according to Eaton Group President Penelope E. May.
