The Parkway Plaza shopping center in El Cajon was evacuated Monday evening after an explosive device went off outside it, police said.
A Sheriff’s Department bomb squad arrived after the 7 p.m. incident with two bomb-sniffing dogs to search for any other explosives that might have been placed there, Officer Steve Shakowski said.
“We had a destructive device that detonated on north side of Parkway Plaza,” he said. “As far as I know of, there were no injuries. We’ve secured the (shopping center) perimeter . . . and evacuated the entire mall.”
Shakowski was uncertain how many people had to be evacuated. Authorities were attempting to determine the size and type of explosive device.
