A 28-year-old Canyon Country man was convicted Tuesday of attempting to rape a blind woman and of using a deadly weapon to hold another victim against her will.
A San Fernando Superior Court jury found David Jerry Esington guilty of intent to commit rape and false imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled Feb. 24.
The 35-year-old blind woman testified earlier that she had accepted a ride from Esington as she waited at a bus stop in Newhall on June 3. Esington drove her to a remote area and tried to force her to have sex, she testified. After a struggle, Esington dropped her off at a shopping area in Canyon Country, she said.
Esington was arrested June 10 in an attack on a 38-year-old woman. In that incident, Esington pulled a knife on the woman and told her he wanted to have sex with her, authorities said. At that moment, two sheriff’s deputies pulled up and arrested Esington, authorities said.
Esington is being held in County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
