A 37-year-old Pacoima man pleaded guilty Tuesday to murder in the shooting death of his nephew, authorities said.
Ronald Owen Lewis, arrested after attempting to hit police with his car after the Oct. 15 slaying, also pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Daniel M. Greller.
Lewis is being held without bail in County Jail. Sentencing is scheduled Feb. 21 in San Fernando Superior Court. He could receive 27 years to life in prison.
Carl Steward, 27, died a few hours after being shot in the upper body outside his house in the 11900 block of Herrick Avenue during a dispute with Lewis, police said.
Officers arrived after receiving reports of gunfire, and witnesses pointed out Lewis as he drove away, police said. Lewis swerved his car toward the officers, and one of them fired at Lewis and missed, police said.
Lewis was captured a short time later after his car collided with another vehicle, police said.
